History of the Foundation for the Children of Haiti

Chapter 8 – 2007: Complications with the Adoption Program… A New Focus for Rainbow of Love

In the late 2000's, the Haitian adoption system had become very inefficient and prone to unethical practices. As a result, in 2007 the Foundation reluctantly suspended its adoption program. At that time around 60 babies and toddlers were living at the Nursery.

This created a challenge for the Foundation because now – a instead of the children at the Nursery being supported by their adoptive families, pending completion of the adoption program – Rainbow of Love was now their permanent home.

Thanks to the diligence of the staff and the generosity of our sponsors, the Foundation successfully transitioned from Rainbow of Love Nursery to Rainbow of Love Orphanage.
